Sustainable Development

Ivor Ichikowitz has joined forces with land management business SFM Africa to establish, in a first for Africa, a green economy in Gabon - strategically placed in the Congo basin, the world’s second lung after the Amazon. It will see investment in a variety of sustainable projects based on a near 700,000 hectare site. The new project will include sustainable forestry (timber processing and high value products), eco tourism, agri-business, renewable energies and infrastructure development. Reclaimed timber will be used to build eco lodges, powered by mini hydro plants and safaris will use electric powered vehicles – in short, the aim is to create a new benchmark in eco tourism. The project will also create a carbon offset market for Gabon, securitizing and marketing the carbon offset arising from the sustainable development.
